Jubilant Cadista Expansion Still a Year Away from Completion

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. – A planned expansion at pharmaceutical manufacturing company Jubilant Cadista is roughly a year behind it's original schedule, this according to the executive director of Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development.

In July, 2013, the company broke ground on an expansion that would double the size of the facility located on Kiley Drive. The expansion includes additional space for production, packing, warehouse and distribution, enabling it to double the number of products it produces. Jubilant Cadista said would bring in roughly 200 jobs over five years.

The company initially expected the construction to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2014. But construction is still not finished. In part, SWED executive director David Ryan says, because of a plan change.

"They delayed it initially to add to the construction project. So they enhanced the construction project but that caused about a three- or four-month delay," Ryan says.

Ryan says construction to the warehouse should be completed by March or April, manufacturing space should come online near September of this year. The entire project should be complete by this time next year, Ryan says.
