LANDOVER, Md.- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore track & field team got off to a strong start at the MEAC Indoor Championships, obtaining 22 points on day one, enough to lead the conference.
Five of the six members on the men's team won points for their team Thursday, led by sophomore Khalil Rmidi Kinini, who won the 5000 meter with a time of 15:29:46, winning 10 points for his team. Kinini was not alone in his efforts, as freshman teammate, Oussama Chouati, came in third place, posting a time of 15:30:77. The 22 total points for the team places the Hawks at the top of their conference.
For the lady Hawks, sophomore runner, Barbora Blahutova, came in third in the 5000 meter run, which was good for six points. She did not receive any help, as those were the only points the women would take home on day one. Despite this, they sit only six points behind the leader of the conference, Florda A&M.
Day two of the competition resumed Friday.
