Children, Adults Enjoy Snow Day on Delmarva

Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. (WBOC) - It was a much-awaited day for children across Delmarva. A day off school to play in the snow! Whether it was building a snowman, trying to throw snowballs or sledding, people were flocking outdoors.

Six-year-old Lorelei and her cousin Emeka were sledding down a hill in the Salisbury City Park. Emeka, 9, is from the Philippines and is visiting her family in Salisbury. Tuesday was her first experience with snow.

When I asked her how it felt, she said "cold."

"We like throwing snowballs and we want to do a snowman," said Lorelei, talking about their plan for the rest of the day.

It wasn't the ideal snow for forming snowballs, but it was certainly a great day for sledding. That's exactly what Caden Noelte and his family were doing.

"When there's snow, we will come here and get the kids out here and enjoying it," said his dad, Brandon Noelte. "It's good having kids that want to be outside and play rather than inside and watching tv when there's snow on the ground, so that's good."

It's not just a snow day for the kids.

"Both my wife and I teach, so it's wonderful to have off and enjoy the weather," said Noelte.

Some of the older kids, like Nick Shell, took it up a notch. He showed off his snowboarding skills near the Salisbury Elks Lodge.

Ninth grader Drew Harper and her family were also enjoying the fresh powder. She and her five sisters were sledding and snowboading, enjoying their day off.

Just up Route 13 in Laurel, I found Adan Ramirez and his family putting the finishing touches on a snowman in their front yard. The children went inside and got a fresh carrot for a nose and chocolates for eyes. There was just one problem, his hat wouldn't stay on!

There was one common factor among people choosing to play outside in the snow Tuesday. They said they couldn't wait to make a nice cup of hot cocoa when they got home.
