Bitter Cold Shatters Records in Washington-Baltimore Region

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bitter cold temperatures have shattered decades-old records in Washington and Baltimore.

The National Weather Service says the low Friday got down to 6 degrees at Reagan National Airport, just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. That beats the record low of 8 degrees, set in 1896.

At Baltimore's airport, the temperature dipped down to 2 degrees. The record was 4 degrees, set in 1979.

High temperatures Thursday also broke records and were forecast to do so again Friday. In Baltimore, Thursday's high of 18 degrees broke the record of 19 degrees, set in 1903. And at Dulles International Airport, Thursday's high temperature of 15 degrees broke the record for the daily low maximum of 28, set in 1993.

Wind chills in the region were about 15 below zero.
