NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - The New Castle County Police Department says a missing Delaware toddler who was subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe after an alleged parental kidnapping.

Police say Elinor Trotta and her father 43-year-old Michael Trotta were located in Spencer, Massachusetts Tuesday, about 60 miles east of Boston. Authorities say they believe the girl's father, who was taken into custody outside an apartment, has family connections in the area.

Dawn Barkus, the girl's mother, said she had spoken by telephone with her daughter, whom she described as "shaken" and ready to come home.

Police say Barkus called them Monday night to report that her ex-boyfriend had just come to her home, assaulted her, and took Elinor. An Amber Alert was issued Monday night and an intense search began involving law enforcement in multiple states and the FBI.

Police say detectives are working to reunite Elinor with her mother.

Authorities say Michael Trotta is facing charges that included assault, endangerment and carjacking.
