2 Charged in Md. Home Invasion that Netted $10K, Rare Coins

Posted:

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) - Two men have been charged in a Bethesda home invasion that police say netted $10,000 and rare silver coins.

Montgomery County Police say an 85-year-old couple were in their basement Feb. 16 when they heard a loud crash. When they went upstairs, two men ordered the couple to sit on the couch and put their hands up. Police say the men left after taking the cash and coins.

Police arrested two men in the crime late last week, including one who had recently installed a new heating system in the couple's home.

Police say that man, 30-year-old Robert Hartley of Bel Air, made a full confession and had some of the coins and cash in his home. Hartley and 28-year-old Ioanis Gourgoulianos of Fallston are charged with home invasion, first degree assault and theft.

'Ghost Pots' Hurting Chesapeake Bay's Blue Crab Population

Crabbing season is well underway, and that means hundreds of thousands of crab pots are in the Chesapeake Bay catching blue crabs.

Every morning during crabbing season, you can see watermen gathering up their pots, collecting their catch, and putting the pots back in the water. What you cannot see is the problem: pots that have had their lines severed sit on the bay's bottom, sometimes never seen again, along with the crabs inside them.
