Panel Continues Study of Violent Crime Problem in Wilmington

Posted:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A panel formed by Gov. Jack Markell in response to growing violent crime in Wilmington is meeting to talk about available police resources.

The Wilmington Public Safety Strategies Commission was to meet Tuesday night, after postponing a meeting earlier this month because of severe weather.

The panel planned to focus Tuesday on law enforcement resources, including city police, federal partnerships, and state and county police. It also was scheduled to get a progress report from two consulting firms it has retained.

The commission is charged with conducting a rapid, fact-based examination of public safety strategies in Wilmington and offering recommendations to address the city's violent crime problem.
