3 Va. Troopers Injured in Separate Highway Accidents


DUMFRIES, Va. (AP) - Three Virginia state troopers suffered injuries in separate incidents on Virginia highways over a 12-hour span.

Virginia State Police say the first accident occurred about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-95 in Prince William County when a speeding Ford Explorer lost control and struck a trooper's car.

A second incident occurred Tuesday morning when a speeding driver sideswiped a trooper's marked car on Route 58 in Suffolk. Police say the driver struck the car again then ran off the road, striking a tree. Police say the driver died at the scene.

A third accident occurred Tuesday afternoon on I-66 near the Capital Beltway when a car ran off the road and collided with stopped cars as a trooper was making a traffic stop.
