Delaware Man Arraigned on Fugitive From Justice Charge

EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. (AP/WBOC) - A Delaware man who allegedly kidnapped his 3-year-old daughter and brought her to Massachusetts has been held on $25,000 bail at his arraignment on a fugitive from justice charge.

Michael Trotta clutched a picture of his daughter and cried during the arraignment Wednesday. He later signed papers authorizing his return to Delaware where he faces more serious charges including assault, endangerment and carjacking, according to Massachusetts media. 

Police say 43-year-old Michael Trotta and his daughter, 3-year-old Elinor Trotta, were located in Spencer, Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say they believe the girl's father, who was taken into custody outside an apartment, has family in the area. The girl was unhurt.

Dawn Barkus, the girl's mother, said she had spoken by telephone with her daughter Tuesday night, whom she described as "shaken" and ready to come home. Police said they were working to reunite Barkus with Elinor, but no details on when that would happen were released.

Authorities say Barkus called the New Castle County Police Department on Monday to report that her ex-boyfriend had come to her home, assaulted her, and took Elinor. An Amber Alert was issued Monday night and an intense search began involving law enforcement in multiple states and the FBI.
