Lane Closures Set for I-495 Bridge in Wilmington

Posted:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - State transportation officials are warning motorists of nighttime closures on the I-495 bridge over the Christina River this week.

Officials say the left and center northbound lanes between the Terminal Avenue and 12th Street exits, as well as the left southbound lane, will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday through Thursday.

The nighttime closures are in lieu of previously scheduled daytime closure on Monday.

The lane closures are needed so that workers can remove two temporary steel girders.

The girders were put in place last summer after the discovery that several supporting columns on the bridge were tilting, forcing its emergency closing.

The bridge was reopened to traffic in August but work has continued on the piers underneath it.
