Commemoration of K-9 Veterans to be Held at Va. War Memorial

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Four K-9 units will demonstrate their dogs' duties during the state's commemoration of K-9 veterans at the Virginia War Memorial.

The event will be held on Saturday at the memorial in Richmond. It will be co-hosted by the memorial and Hanover Hounds Search and Rescue.

Friday is K-9 Veterans Day. Memorial executive director Jon Hatfield says in a news release that the commemoration will be held on Saturday so families and children can see the dog units in action.

Demonstrations will be conducted by Hanover Hounds Search and Rescue and K-9 units from Fort Lee, the Richmond Police Department and Virginia Capitol Police.

The General Assembly designated March 13 as K-9 Veterans Day in 2013.
