Delaware Police: Man Found Dead in Van Was Fatally Shot

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a man found dead in a van that drove off a highway in New Castle was shot to death.

Police said Sunday that the death of 32-year-old Shelton Johns of Wilmington is a homicide. They say the cause of death was gunshot wounds.

Troopers called to North DuPont Highway early Sunday found Johns and an injured woman in a van that had driven into a ditch. Johns was pronounced dead and the 33-year-old woman was taken to a hospital.

Master Cpl. Jeffrey R. Hale, a police spokesman, said Monday that the woman's injuries have prevented troopers from interviewing her.

Police found a second vehicle nearby and are trying to determine if the two scenes are related. Hale says troopers have spoken with that vehicle's owner.
