Sussex League of Women Voters Presents Comprehensive Land Use Process Forum

Posted:

GEORGETOWN, Del.– On Wednesday, March 18, the League of Women Voters of Sussex County will present the first in a series of forums on the Comprehensive Land Use Plan process. The forums are aimed at engaging public interest in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan in preparation for the upcoming revision of the existing plan, approved in 2008. The first meeting will be held at County Council Chambers, 2 the Circle Georgetown from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A panel of knowledgeable speakers will present relevant information concerning local land use issues and the Comprehensive Land Use Plan process followed by a question and answer period. The panelists include Todd Lawson, Sussex County Administrator, Vince Robertson, Assistant Sussex County Attorney, Connie Holland, DE State Planning Director, and Dorothy Morris, Sussex County Circuit-Rider Planner.

Land use is a critical issue in determining the quality of life of Sussex County residents. A well-thought out and purposeful Comprehensive Plan focuses land use decisions on maximizing the well being of the people of this county. To do this effectively requires that citizens get involved early on in the process, and make sure that county officials understand their needs and concerns. A public-private partnership is the only way to insure an outcome that is mutually beneficial.

This forum begins the process to raise visibility for the Comprehensive Plan, and to encourage public participation. After the March 18th forum, there will be five additional public meetings. In contrast, each of these meetings will be held in towns across Sussex County and will be focused on gathering input from residents associated with a County Council District as follows:

Laurel Library, Laurel (co-sponsored by the Laurel Library): Wed., March 25, 4 to 6 p.m.

Milton Library, Milton: Wed., April 15, 4 to 6 p.m.

South Coastal Library, Bethany: Sat., April 25, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Seaford Library. Seaford: Wed, April 29, 4-6 p.m.

County Council Chambers, Georgetown: Wed, May 6, 7-9 p.m.

The League of Women Voters of Sussex County invites you to make your voice heard. Your participation can make the difference.
