Inmate Serving Life Term Dies in Delaware Prison

SMYRNA, Del.- Delaware prison officials say an inmate serving a life sentence for robbery and assault has died in the state's largest prison.

Officials said 58-year-old Darius Johnson died Sunday evening in the infirmary of the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna after a long illness.

Johnson, of Wilmington, was 24 years into a life sentence when he died.

His body has been turned over to the State Division of Forensic Science. Foul play is not suspected.

Officials said that since 1990, Johnson had been serving a life sentence on charges of assault and robbery.

Following standard procedure, Johnson's body was turned over to the state Division of Forensic Science, for autopsy to determine his cause and manner of death.
