Md. Officials Urge Sensible Response to Severe Storms

Posted: Updated:

REISTERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - State officials are urging residents to be prepared and use common sense when dealing with severe thunderstorms.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency says springtime is prime time for severe storms, with more than 100 tornadoes confirmed in the state in last 10 years.

They say drivers should never enter an area where water is flowing over a road and the pavement is not visible.

When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, you should go to a sturdy shelter and stay indoors, away from windows.

If there's a tornado warning, or you see a tornado, hurry inside and go to the lowest floor possible.

And if you hear thunder, get indoors or inside your vehicle as quickly as possible to avoid lightning strikes.
