DOVER, Del. - Delaware State Police have made an arrest in connection to the shooting of a 44-year-old man in North Dover in January.

25-year-old James A. Wheeler, of Dover, was arrested Wednesday and charged in the shooting on January 8. Police say they found him after Wheeler was the victim of another shooting in Camden on Monday.

Police say on January 8, troopers were advised to respond to the North Dover Plaza shopping center on Rt. 13 just north of Dyke Branch Road in Dover for a report that a man had been shot. The victim, a 44-year-old man from Dover, had been shot in his upper torso, according to police.

As the investigation progressed, detectives of the Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit were able to positively identify Wheeler as the suspect in the shooting, according to police. Police say detectives obtained warrants for Wheeler's arrest, however, despite multiple attempts, were unable to locate him.

Just before 5 p.m. on Monday, Troopers say they responded to the Rodney Village housing development in Camden for the report of a man who had been shot multiple times. Upon their arrival, troopers found James Wheeler suffering from several gunshot wounds to his lower torso. Wheeler was taken to a local hospital and admitted for treatment of his injuries, according to police.

On Wednesday, State Police say detectives went to the hospital and arrested Wheeler and charged him with first degree attempted murder, first degree attempted robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, first degree reckless endangerment, and second degree conspiracy. He was arraigned and issued a $618,000 cash bail. Police say Wheeler remains in the hospital due to his injuries from Monday's shooting.

Delaware State Police say detectives continue to investigate the shooting of Wheeler. They ask anyone with any information in reference to this incident to contact Troop 3 Major Crimes Unit at 302-697-2104.
