CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP)- Students would pay more to attend the University of Virginia if a proposed tuition increase is approved.

The proposal includes a 3.6 percent increase for in-state undergraduate students and a 3.7 percent hike for out-of-state undergraduates.

Tuition for students in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences would rise by about 2.5 percent. Tuition increases for students in the medicine, law and graduate business schools would range from 2 percent to 6 percent.

U.Va. chief operating officer Patrick Hogan tells The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/19MqSwT ) that the school faces a projected $30 million net increase in costs next year.

The Board of Visitors is expected to vote on the proposal this week.
