$10 Mil. Del. Seashore Park Campgrounds Open

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Governor Markell and other officials attended the ribbon cutting ceremony Friday to unveil the new $10 million Delaware Seashore State Park Campgrounds.

Susan and Walter Jones have been visiting the site since the 70s, and were the first in line.

"It's just the best place to be," Susan Jones said. "You can't beat the views, the beach is right there, the bay is right there, we love the fish, so what better place to come to."

Federal and state funds awarded to DELDOT came together for the project to build full hook-up campsites, heated bath houses, safe sidewalks and more.

But the site remained open during the ten years of construction.

"The biggest challenge was operating a state park in the midst of construction site," Ray Bivens, Director of DNREC Divisions of Parks and Recreation said. "I think a lot of folks uh when they came down here they'd see bulldozers, you'd hear equipment."

The Jone's were awarded a free weekend for the soft opening, along with 80 others, to evaluate the new amenities.

"Absolutely beautiful, the bath houses are awesome, the sites themselves are perfect with the hardtop you know the gravel," Susan Jones said. "Everything everything new is always better."
