Lewes Doctor's Office Ordered to be Closed

DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP)– Delaware's Division of Public Health has ordered an ear, nose and throat practice in Lewes to be closed. The DPH has ordered the closure of Delaware Otolaryngology Consultants, LLC following an inspection which was unable to confirm proper sterilization processes were followed.

DPH is encouraging customers and employees who may have received services at Otolaryngology Consultants to contact their healthcare provider to talk about evaluation for diseases such as hepatitis and HIV that may have been transmitted through potentially un-sterile equipment.

Dr. Beth R. Duncan, who runs the medical practice, said she wasn't aware of the order and that she thought it was premature.

Records show that Duncan was licensed in Delaware in September 2009, two months after a malpractice complaint was filed against her in Maryland and roughly two years after she was reprimanded by Maryland regulators and agreed to pay a $5,000 fine and take a medical ethics course following patient complaints.

Delaware Otolaryngology Consultants is located at 17316 Coastal Highway in Lewes.
