Va. Principal on Leave After Assault Charge

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A Blacksburg elementary school principal is on paid administrative leave after being charged with assault and battery.
Blacksburg police Lt. Mike Alber tells media outlets that the charge against 56-year-old Carol Kahler stems from an alleged incident in February.
Police haven't released any additional information.
Montgomery County School Superintendent Brenda Blackburn says in a letter to parents that Kahler is on paid administrative leave.
Kahler is principal of Gilbert Linkous Elementary School. Rhonda Baker is serving as acting principal.
School system spokeswoman Brenda Drake says the system can't comment on police or confidential personnel matters.
