WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- Former longtime News Journal editor and Delaware policy figure John H. Taylor Jr. has died.
Taylor's wife, Maria, said Monday that he died Saturday after battling lung cancer. He was 71.
Taylor worked for the newspaper for 37 years as a reporter, metro editor and editorial page editor. He left in 2005 for the Delaware Public Policy Institute, a Delaware State Chamber of Commerce affiliate, where he served as executive director and senior vice president.
In 2003, Taylor served as the president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers, now the Association of Opinion Journalists, and regularly appeared on WHYY-TV programs, such as "Political Perspectives."
Last week, Gov. Jack Markell awarded Taylor the Order of the First State, the highest honor given by the state.
