Fort Detrick Opening New Visitor Gate

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - The Army is opening a new gate for visitors to Fort Detrick in Frederick.

The opening on Friday of the new gate on Opossumtown Pike marks the second change in visitor entry points in the last decade.

Spokeswoman Lanessa Hills says the gate will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It's called the Nallin Gate, named for a family that once farmed in the area.

She says visitors will no longer be processed at the Old Farm Gate on Rosemont Ave. That gate became the visitor entrance in the mid-2000s after increased security measures caused long lines at the Seventh Street Gate.

Officials say the new visitor gate has features that will improve security and reduce traffic congestion.
