MILLSBORO, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a school bus fire that happened Monday morning in Millsboro.

Troopers said that at around 6:45 a.m., an East Millsboro Elementary school bus was traveling on Careys Camp Road when the engine shut down and the bus came to a sudden stop. Police said the 41-year-old female driver then saw and smelled smoke and flames coming from the front.

Police said the driver, along with a 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, safely exited the rear of the bus through the emergency exit and ran to a nearby house where they were able to call 9-1-1.

All three were uninjured in the incident, which police said is believed to have been caused by a mechanical issue.
