SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury police say surveillance video captured significant portions of a drowning that happened Sunday night in the Wicomico River.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. in the area of 530 Riverside Drive.

Detectives say they have reviewed significant surveillance footage from a nearby location, showing what happened. The video will be given to the media at the end of the investigation.

Police have identified the victim as Lamar Byron Sheppard, 24, of Salisbury.

Police say a Good Samaritan pulled Sheppard out of the water and tried to save him, but he was later pronounced dead at PRMC.

Police said an investigation determined that Sheppard entered the water near the southwest corner of 530 Riverside Drive and was unable to swim.

Detectives have interviewed a number of witnesses to the incident and are attempting to locate several others.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on the victim Monday. The cause and manner of death are pending. Preliminary results indicated no obvious trauma to the victim.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at (410) 548-3165 or Crime Solvers at (410) 548-1776.
