Stephen Colbert Getting Army Award for Civilian Service

Posted:

FORT MYER, Va. (AP)- Stephen Colbert is getting a medal - and it's no joke.

The comedian and four others are receiving the Army's Outstanding Civilian Service Award Tuesday at Fort Myer, near Washington.

The award is the Army's third-highest honor for civilian public service.

Colbert is best known for skewering conservatives on his Comedy Central show, "The Colbert Report." But he's also a contributor and fundraiser for numerous charities, including care for wounded veterans.

The other medal recipients are former Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig; former United Parcel Service CEO Scott Davis; J.P. Morgan Chase Chief Operating Officer Matthew Zames; and Morrill Worcester, owner of the Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine. His family founded a charity that sends holiday wreaths to cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery.
