SALISBURY, Md. - Maryland State Police say a moped driver has serious head injuries after an accident Wednesday afternoon on Route 13.

Troopers say it happened around 1:30 p.m. in the northbound direction of Business Route 13 between Zion Road and the Route 50 Bypass.

Police say a 2008 Chrysler Van, driven by 37-year-old Cidney Meadows of Salisbury, was entering Route 13 via a ramp from the southbound Bypass when it collided with a 2005 KYMC Moped.

Police say the moped, operated by 23-year-old Justin Bristol of Quantico, Md., was traveling northbound and had crossed over to the travel portion of the ramp.

Police say Bristol was thrown from his moped.

He sustained serious head trauma and was transported to PRMC for treatment, according to police.

A Maryland State Police Advanced Collision Investigator responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Alcohol was not a factor and no charges have been placed at this time, according to police.

The accident is still under investigation.

The Salisbury Police Department and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department provided assistance to MSP with traffic direction during this time. A detour was set up of Route 13 at Naylor Mill Road.
