Giant Removes Blue Bell Ice Cream Products From Stores For Listeria Concerns

LANDOVER, Md. – Giant Food has removed all Blue Bell ice cream products from its stores in the wake of a recall due to potential Listeria contamination.

The ice cream varieties included in the recall are 16-ounce containers of Blue Bell Gold Rim Ice Cream (UPC 7189905101) and 64-ounce containers of Blue Bell Ice Cream (UPC 7189983548, 7189943555 and 7189903720).

Customers who have purchased any of the affected products should discard whatever is left and bring their receipts to Giant for a full refund.

Listeria is a common organism found in nature. However, consumption of food items contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea, although rarely in healthy individuals. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and people with HIV or who are undergoing chemotherapy.

Consumers looking for additional information on the recall may call Blue Bell at 866-608-3940. In addition, customers may call Giant Food Customer Service at 888-469-4426 for more information. Customers can also visit the Giant Food website at
