Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Troopers are investigating a fatal crash in Sussex County.

It happened on County Seat Highway and Old Furnace Road around 1:10 p.m.

According to police, a 42-year-old Michael McIntire died in the single-vehicle crash.

Police say McIntire was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota west bound when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle went off the road and hit several signs and ultimately into a ditch filled with deep water. 

McIntire who was unrestrained, suffered significant injuries related to the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. County Seat Highway (US 9) was closed in both directions for more than two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit in Sussex County.
