STAFFORD, Va. (AP) - A man in the baggage compartment of a Greyhound bus was severely injured when the vehicle caught fire on Interstate 95 in Virginia.
Virginia State Police say the driver pulled the bus over Thursday after starting to see and smell smoke coming into the cabin. Responding public safety officials encountered fire coming from the baggage compartment, which is below the passenger area.
Police say a man found inside the luggage compartment was airlifted with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital.
All 28 passengers were able to exit the bus and were taken to a safe location.
State police are investigating the incident, including how someone got into the baggage area.
