National Safe Boating Week Kicks off in West Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md.- National Safe Boating Week will kick off on Saturday, May 16 at 9 a.m. at the West Ocean City Boat Ramp at the foot of the commercial channel.

Members of the United States Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary and Maryland Natural Resources Police kick off this week to serve as a reminder to the recreation boating community to always boat responsibly and always wear your life jacket.

The theme of this year NSBW is “Take the Pledge."

Maryland Delegate Mary Beth Carozzo, Maryland State Senator Jim Mathias and a representative from US Congressman Andy Harris' office will be in attendance.

The dignitaries will arrive from Coast Guard Station Ocean City to the West Ocean City Boat Ramp aboard a 47' Motor Life Boat. The 47' MLB is one of the primary Search and Rescue vessels stationed in Ocean City.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary will be performing free courtesy Vessel Safety Inspections and providing safe boating tips at the ramp every Saturday and Sunday morning throughout the recreational boating season. The 47' MLB will also be available for public tours on Saturday.
