Gov. McAuliffe Announces Formation of Retail Electricity Reduction Committee

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Utility officials, an environmental lawyer and business people have been named to a state committee to reduce by 10 percent retail electricity consumption in Virginia by 2020.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the 12 members on Monday. They will develop strategies and recommendations to achieve that energy-savings goal.

Members include representatives from Dominion Virginia Power and Appalachian Power Co., an attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center, a Virginia Tech professor and representatives from the attorney general's office, localities and the Virginia Poverty Law Center.

The committee will be overseen by Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones.

In announcing the committee members, McAuliffe said energy efficiency is good for the environment and the economy.
