Window Washer Dangles From Side of Wilmington High-Rise

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A window washer in Delaware was rescued after being suspended 30 feet in the air from a rope at a Wilmington high-rise after his scaffolding gave way.

59-year-old Grayling Bolston was cleaning the 8th-floor exterior windows of the Bank of America building Tuesday morning when his scaffolding had a power failure and gave way.

Officials say Bolston hung by a rope for around 25 minutes while firefighters responded and prepared to rescue him. A co-worker was able to remedy the power issue and rescue workers on the roof got Bolston to safety.

Bolston, a veteran window washer, told the station this wasn't the first time he's been stuck hanging from the side of a building.

He was evaluated by emergency medical responders and refused treatment.
