EASTON, Md. – Police say an 18-year-old Easton man is facing attempted murder and related charges following accusations that he tried to kill his ex-girlfriend and then take his own life.

Easton police said that on Thursday evening officers responded to a reported burglary at a home on the 8600 block of Brenton Drive.

Police said when officers arrived on the scene, they found a rear sliding glass door broken and James P. Dickerson with a revolver in his hand.

When told to drop the gun, officers said Dickerson raised the gun and pointed it at his head. Police said after additional pleas, Dickerson put the gun down and was taken into custody.

According to police, an investigation revealed that Dickerson was once involved with one of the residents in the home. He and the female had broken up.

Police said they learned that as officers were on their way to the home, Dickerson shot through a locked bathroom door where the female was, but she was not hit.

Police said that during an interview with Dickerson, he told officers that he intended to kill his ex-girfriend and himself.

Following his arrest, Dickerson was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder; first- and second-degree assault; first-, third- and fourth-degree burglary; home invasion, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, firearm use in a violent crime, theft, possession of a firearm by minor and a regulated firearm stolen.

He was ordered  held without bond.
