2 Killed in Crash with State Trooper Pursuing Vehicle

Posted:

LURAY, Va. (AP)- Virginia State Police say a state trooper chasing a speeding vehicle collided with another car, killing two people.

Sgt. F.L. Tyler said 25-year-old trooper M.R. Leeds was driving west on U.S. 211 near Luray in Page County Monday when a speeding vehicle passed him. Tyler said Leeds turned on his lights and sirens and made a U-turn before chasing after the vehicle.

As the trooper drove after the speeding vehicle, a 1965 Buick pulled out from a side street to cross the highway and the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the Buick, 64-year-old Thomas R. Ramey and his wife, 64-year-old Barbara, died at the scene.

Leeds was transported with minor injuries to Page Memorial Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
