One Killed in Crash on Route 301 in Queen Anne's County

Posted:
CHURCH HILL, Md. - Maryland State Police say one person was killed Wednesday morning after an SUV drove into the path of a tractor trailer in Queen Anne's County.

It happened just before 10 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and Md. Route 405. Police say Valerie A. Coldwell, of Centreville, attempted to cross over Route 301 when she pulled into the path of a 2014 Kenworth tractor trailer pulling two trailers owned by Fed-Ex freight, driven by John P. Romer, of Seaford.

Police say Coldwell was transported to the Queen Anne's County Emergency Center where she was pronounced dead. Her vehicle was removed to the Centreville Police Barrack for further investigation, according to police. Police say the truck was inspected by the Commercial Enforcement Division and removed by Fed-Ex.

Authorities say Route 301 was closed in the southbound direction for several hours. The crash is under investigation by Maryland State Police.
