SEAFORD, Del. – A Harrington man is behind bars after police say he robbed a Seaford business at gunpoint.

Seaford police said the crime occurred at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the El Amigo store, located on Norman Eskridge Highway.

Police said 34-year-old Michael Fitzgerald entered the business and demanded money from the clerk while displaying a long gun. Investigators said the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and Fitzgerald fled from the scene.

Using a description of his vehicle, officers were able to locate Fitzgerald driving on Stein Highway. Police said they arrested him and then recovered a loaded .22 caliber rifle, seven baggies of heroin and drug paraphernalia inside his car.

Fitzgerald was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $115,000 secured bond.
