Md. Natural Resources Police Issue Close to 400 Tickets During Holiday Weekend

Posted:

BALTIMORE, Md. – The beautiful weather this past Memorial Day Weekend caused a lot of traffic on Maryland's waterways and in state parks and kept the Natural Resources Police on their toes.

NRP say their officers responded to 588 calls for service, issued 386 tickets and 1,104 warning and talked to more than 23,700 recreational anglers, boaters and park goers between Saturday and Monday.

Patrol officers charged seven boaters with operating under the influence during the course of those 72 hours, compared to five last year.

There were nine boating accidents recorded by the state, one of which was fatal. Officers a New Carrollton angler died in an accident in Calvert County. A swimming accident in Garrett County led to the death of a teenager from Kitzmiller, Md., NRP said.

Officers returning from a wreath-laying ceremony at the Annapolis City Dock on Memorial Day rescued seven fishermen from their capsized boat just south of the Bay Bridge. All were unharmed, according to NRP.
