Police Making Arrests in Baltimore Homicides

Posted:

BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore interim police commissioner says the department is making arrests in homicides and is linking seized guns with crimes, some years old.

Kevin Davis, at his second news conference in as many days, said Wednesday that officers have made arrests in four homicides in the past 48 hours, and in five non-fatal shootings in the past two weeks.

Davis says ballistics tests on seized firearms have led detectives to link guns to crimes. One handgun was linked to three shootings, an armed robbery and a homicide, some dating to 2003.

Davis is in his second week as interim commissioner. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake fired Commissioner Anthony Batts on July 8, saying a recent spike in homicides required a change in leadership.

This story has been corrected to show that Anthony Batts was fired on July 8, not June 8.
