Delaware State Fair Prepares for Large Crowds

Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del.- Carnival rides, food vendors and zoo animals were set up this week at the Delaware State Fairgrounds with anticipation of large crowds for Thursday.

The Delaware State Fair will open its gates on Thursday at noon and Delaware State Fair Assistant General Manager Danny Aguilar said festival goers can expect even more this year.

"We have a new hypnotist, we have new grounds attractions, we have a magic show, some roaming entertainment, and then we've added, of course, some new livestock," Aguilar said.

This year the fair will showcase over 450 retail food vendors and more than 55 carnival rides.

Despite the high temperatures across Delmarva, Aguilar said fair organizers will be prepared.

We see that folks will generally attend at night time when it's a little bit cooler," Aguilar said. "We have air-conditioned buildings and air-conditioned marketplace tents, we've got misting stations."

Last year's fair attendance reached 282,000 people. However, this year fair organizers are expecting up to 300,000 people.

This event is so large, organizers have already started planning for next year.

"Plans are in place, we're looking for entertainment and changes we can make for 2016," Aguilar said.

The fair will kick off July 23 and last through Aug. 1 with events happening throughout each day.

New Waterfront Hotel Breaks Ground in O.C., Part 2

The location of a new waterfront hotel that recently broke ground in Ocean City is raising some eyebrows with neighbors in the downtown area.

The Cambria Hotel is being built in the vacant lot that sits just north of the Route 50 drawbridge, meaning it will be one of the first things drivers see headed into town.

Brian Plimack, who lives just behind the development, said the hotel is too much of a drastic change to the town's skyline.
