Police identify pedestrian killed by tractor trailer

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have identified a man struck and killed by a tractor trailer in New Castle.

Troopers said Wednesday that 78-year-old William E. Warren of Delaware City died Tuesday morning when he was struck while trying to cross US Route 13.

Police say the driver of the tractor trailer, 60-year-old John Davis of Westville, New Jersey, tried to stop and swerved to avoid hitting Warren. Officers say Warren fell in the road and was hit by the tractor trailer.

Troopers say Warren was pronounced dead the scene. Davis was not injured, but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The crash is under investigation.
