Armed Civilians Standing Outside Va. Recruiting Centers


STAUNTON, Va. (AP)- Armed civilians are taking up posts outside recruiting centers in Virginia.
The volunteer guardians in Staunton and Spotsylvania are among those nationally who have stood outside military-related addresses following a deadly shooting attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee, July 16. Five service members were killed. The gunman killed himself.
In Staunton, David Beisner is outside the Armed Forces Career center with a semiautomatic weapon. He tells the News Leader ( ) he's a former special agent with the FBI.
In Spotsylvanla, four armed men have been stationed outside the U.S. Armed Services recruiting center.
One of the sentries told The Free Lance-Star about a half dozen are guarding the center on shifts.
In Virginia, a firearm may be carried openly in public except where prohibited by statute such as schools and government property.
