Little Big Town Cancellation Hits Del. State Fair

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (WBOC) - A little big disappointment. The Delaware State Fair announced the country band Little Big Town canceled its upcoming show at the fair.
The band was scheduled to perform this Friday, July 31. It was one of the fair's headlining acts.
The show is off the big board at the fair's entrance listing all the major event. It's a sight that did not make country music fans happy.
"We were hoping to see Little Big Town, and we're upset they canceled it," said Jade Garrison.
"I was really disappointed," Josh Smiley said. "We were all excited to see them. Last minute - vocal problems."
Back in the spring Little Big Town revealed band member Jimi Westbrook would need surgery to remove polyps on his vocal chords, and all shows were canceled or postponed through July 30. Sunday the band posted a video to Facebook.
"Jimi is still not talking," they said. "He just got back from the doctor. He needs just a little bit more time to heal up."
So, even more shows, including the fair's, are canceled or postponed.
It's a blow to the state fair, which used to be the only major summer music game in town in Delaware but now has to compete with Firefly, Big Barrel and Delaware Junction for acts, audiences and attention.
A lot goes into figuring out who is going to perform each year. The choice of Little Big Town happened a long time ago.
"That process is starting a year, year and a half, ahead of time. We're now looking for acts in 2016," said Danny Aguilar, spokesman for the fair.
Smiley says he's more upset with the band than the fair for all this.
"I think Little Big Town should take more responsibility than the state fair. The state fair had them set up. They said yes. Then, at the last minute, they pull out," he said. "So, to me, that's their fault, not the state fair's."
Instead of Little Big Town, the state fair will feature another night of demolition derby on Friday.
And country fans can still check out Josh Turner on Wednesday. The fair is offering discounted tickets to his show to people who had tickets to Little Big Town's show.
The fair is giving a full refund on the Little Big Town performance. People who bought them through the fair don't need to do anything. The money will automatically be put back on the credit card used.
