Baltimore Police: Store Security Guard Fires at Robber

Posted:

BALTIMORE (AP) - Police say a store security guard fired at least one shot in the Mondawmin Mall parking lot while chasing a man fleeing after allegedly stealing a ring from a jewelry store.

The shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the mall parking lot.

The man walked into RK & Co. Jewelers and asked to see the ring. Police say he put it on his finger, then ran off. A store security guard chased the man, who got into a waiting car. Police say the guard saw the man reaching out of sight, possibly for a weapon, and fired at the vehicle as it drove away.

The car got away and police say no injuries were reported. Police interviewed the guard and say his permit was compliant with regulations.
