Visitors React to Purchase of Beloved Frontier Town

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md.- Frontier Town and Fort Whaley family campgrounds and entertainment, located off of Route 50 in Worcester County, have been purchased by national corporation Sun Communities.

Frontier Town is a beloved, Wild West themed local attraction. It features a water park, ropes course and 600 campsites.

"It's just always been here," Alethea Stupar of Hagerstown, Md., said. "Ever since I was a little girl, Frontier Town's been here."

But now things are changing. Sun Communities runs nearly 200 similar manufactured communities.

WBOC spoke with Mitch Parker, one of the owners of Parkel Corp., the group that owned the property until July 31. However, he declined to comment on the sale.

But, Parkel Corp. will continue to run the show through the rest of the 2015 season.

After that, some visitors hope nothing changes too much.

"I hope that they'll recognize that all of the locals and all of the people have been coming here for years, recognize this is a family place and they like how it is," Stupar said. "So hopefully they'll keep that same thing going because it is popular, I mean it's so crowded here so I don't see why they would need to change it."

Joe and Tracy Warren and their young son and daughter in swimmies feel the same way.

"Let's hope that it stays a little more family-oriented," Joe Warren said.

"I hope it doesn't change too much cause it's kind of perfect the way it is," Tracy Warren agreed.

But Mrs. Warren added change can also be a good thing.

"I'm sure that they would probably add more cabins and stuff like that," she said. "To kind of bring it up to date a little bit, and maybe the bathhouses."

No announcements have been made about any specific changes or updates.
