DENTON, Md.– Denton police say the department's Facebook page helped officers identify and charge a Federalsburg woman in connection to a theft and assault that happened in early July at Wal-Mart.

Police said that on July 2 officers responded to a reported shoplifting incident at the Wal-Mart on the 600 block of Legion Road. Police said loss prevention staff reported that they had detained a woman who had placed items into a plastic tub and attempted to leave the store without paying for them. Police said staff told officers that while waiting in the security office, the suspect grabbed the office door in an attempt to flee and hit the second loss prevention staff member. Investigators said the suspect was able to exit the office and left the area on foot.

Police obtained a photo from Wal-Mart's surveillance footage and placed it on the Denton Police Department’s Facebook page. According to police, the department received numerous anonymous tips identifying the suspect as Margarette Derosiers, 21, of Federalsburg.

Police applied for charges and a criminal summons was issued, charging Derosiers with one count of theft under $1000 and two counts of second-degree assault. The summons was served on Aug. 4 without incident.
