Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Milford

Posted:

MILFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Sunday morning.

It happened around 5:40 a.m. on Bay Road (SR1) southbound, south of Cicada Lane.

Police say 20-year-old Maurico Borda was driving the vehicle southbound on Rt. 1 when the car began to drift off the road and onto the median. According to police, Borda then overcorrected and crossed both southbound lanes. The car then hit the curb and a utility pole before finally striking a large tree. Police say the car then began to spin and roll over, before coming to a stop.

According to police, 23-year-old Edgar Molina of Silver Spring was a passenger in the car and was not properly restrained. He was transported to Milford Memorial, where he was pronounced dead from multiple traumatic injuries.

Borda, who was properly restrained, was also taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injures.

Alejandra Uribe, 19, of Falls Church was also a passenger in the car. Police say she was not properly restrained at the time of the crash. She was transported to the hospital, where she was treated and released with non-life-threatening-injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Charges may be forthcoming, although alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

SR1 southbound at Cicada Lane was closed for approximately two and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
