SALISBURY, Md. --  For a whole week in Maryland you can shop like you're in Delaware thanks to the state's tax incentive program.

"Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week" allows shoppers to buy clothes and footwear without the state's six percent sales tax beginning August 9 lasting until midnight Saturday August 15.

And there's a cherry on top for shoppers checking out the sale racks, as a store manager for Vernon Powell Shoes in Salisbury explains.

"We have our second item sale going on right now where you buy one item, get 20 percent off a second item," said manager Heather Massey.

Massey says they expect large crowds of parents heading out for back-to-school shopping this week.

"We get families with multiple children that are buying school shoes, and different apparel that we have for their kids. They get the tax free break on as long as it's under $100," said Massey.

Maryland's Tax-Free week benefits many but it's a big help to parents who could use a helping hand while shopping ahead of a new school year.

"Every little bit helps especially with the economy being what it is," said Musette Lewis of Baltimore who was out back-to-school shopping for her grandson.
