SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man is facing attempted murder charges following a Sunday evening stabbing.

According to Salisbury police, 42-year-old Jay David Gates Sr., of Salisbury, was arrested early Monday morning without incident.

Police said that on Sunday, Aug. 9, officers responded to the 200 block of East Vine Street for a reported stabbing. Police said Gates and the 36-year-old victim got into an argument that quickly turned physical. That is when Gates allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the upper torso before fleeing on foot, according to investigators.

The victim was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gates is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment.
