BIVALVE, Md.– A public hearing is scheduled for next week to discuss the planned construction next year of a bridge over a business roadway in western Wicomico County.

The Maryland State Highway Administration has scheduled the hearing to give the community a chance to ask questions and raise concerns regarding the replacement of the Nanticoke Road bridge which crosses Windsor Creek in Bivalve.

The meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the West Side Volunteer Fire Department, a fitting place considering Fire Chief John Wilson has several questions to ask. Specifically, he wants to know the exact timeline of when the project will begin. His hope is that it will not interfere with one of the department's largest fundraisers, the Outcasters Open Fishing tournament. Moreover, Wilson said he also wants to make sure the detour route, which will shift traffic onto Oak Grove Church and Jesterville roads, will not impact emergency services. Because the project will begin in September and last 10-12 months, he wants to make sure the roads will be taken care of by the state should winter come early.

“Is the state going to plow it and salt it if we do get early snow this year?” Wilson asks. “As a fire company we are prepared to make the appropriate changes that we have to do.”

An exact timeline for when construction will begin in 2016 has not yet been set. The SHA said it is still working with Wicomico County officials to ensure the state will have access to its road for the purposes of a detour.
