Assateague State Park Celebrating 50th Anniversary


ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Md.- Maryland Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford and Department of Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton will be on hand to celebrate Assateague State Park's 50th anniversary Friday.

The public is invited to attend the anniversary event Friday, Aug. 14. The celebration is scheduled to begin at noon and will be held by the boardwalk to the beach.

DNR and the Maryland Park Service will hold a celebration commemorating the park's 50th anniversary, starting at 11 a.m. The public is invited to participate in a number of activities and games.

The ceremony at noon will include a variety of speakers providing remarks about the conservation efforts within the park and the importance of the park to the state.

The Rackliffe House, located on park property, will receive the Governor's Park Advisory Committee's Partnership Award as part of the ceremony.
